Terms of Use
Last updated October 23, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and David Vivero ("we" or "us"), who runs Chickadee. They cover the Chickadee website, the Chickadee jukebox app, the song cards you print and the Chickadee API. By creating an account or using Chickadee, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why.
Who can use Chickadee
- Grown-ups. You must be an adult (18, or the age of majority where you live) to create an account. You're responsible for your account and for everything done with it, including on the jukeboxes you set up. Keep your sign-in, setup codes and API keys to yourself.
- Families. Each family has one primary grown-up, who manages its kids, jukeboxes, TIDAL logins, invites and grown-ups, and can hand that role to someone else. The primary can invite other grown-ups, who must be adults too, as collaborators: they see the family's kids, add and remove their songs, and print song cards. Invite only people you trust with that and who are happy to get an email from Chickadee, and send each invite link only to the person it's for.
- Kids. Kids may use a jukebox that a grown-up has set up for them, with that grown-up's permission and supervision. Kids may not create accounts.
What Chickadee does
Chickadee lets you choose songs for each of your kids, print song cards, and set up a phone or tablet as a jukebox that plays those songs when a kid scans a card. Kids can also mark how songs make them feel and play all the songs for one feeling. Chickadee is free to use right now. If we ever want to charge for it, we'll tell you first, and you can decide whether to keep using it.
Your music service
- Chickadee doesn't provide music. The jukebox plays songs through your own TIDAL account, or on Android through the Spotify app, so you need your own subscription to one of them.
- You're responsible for following your music service's terms, including its rules about family plans, who may use each login, and minimum ages.
- When you connect a kid's TIDAL account, you allow us to keep its sign-in token (encrypted) and give it to that kid's jukeboxes so they can play.
- Music services can change or remove songs at any time, so we can't promise any song will stay available.
- Chickadee isn't made by, affiliated with or endorsed by TIDAL, Spotify, Musixmatch or Wikipedia. Their names belong to them.
Clean songs, and your judgment
We add a song only if TIDAL doesn't mark it explicit and Musixmatch doesn't mark its lyrics explicit. Song cards hide lyrics that Musixmatch marks explicit, and a jukebox plays only songs from the Chickadee song book and its kid's own list.
Those labels come from other companies and aren't perfect. A song can be unmarked and still not be right for your child: its themes, a word in another language, or a label that is simply wrong. You decide what your kids hear, so please listen to songs before you add them. You can remove a song from a kid's list at any time.
Songs any family adds join a shared Chickadee library that other families can find and add. Only the song joins the library, never who added it.
Song cards, lyrics and artwork
- Song cards are for your own family's personal, non-commercial use. You may print them for your home, but please don't sell them, publish them, or post the lyrics on them publicly.
- Lyrics are licensed through Musixmatch and belong to their songwriters and publishers. Album covers belong to their owners. The "About the artist" text comes from Wikipedia under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and each card credits it.
- Chickadee's name, owl, song book, feelings faces, designs and software belong to us. You may use them only to use Chickadee.
The jukebox
- The jukebox runs on a phone or tablet you provide. You're responsible for that device, how it's used, and supervising your kids while they use it.
- The grown-up settings gate keeps little hands out of the settings, but it isn't a lock. To keep kids inside the jukebox, use Guided Access on iPhone and iPad or screen pinning on Android, as the grown-up settings explain.
- Please keep the volume at a level that is safe for young ears, especially with headphones.
The API
API keys are for you to manage your own family's songs and kids. Keep them secret: anyone with a key can act for your family. Don't use the API to copy the song library or lyrics in bulk, or to send so many requests that Chickadee slows down for others. We may limit or revoke keys that are misused. Anything you get through the API follows the same rules as song cards.
Things you agree not to do
- break the law, or use Chickadee to infringe anyone's rights
- try to see or change another family's information
- try to get around the explicit-song checks or the jukebox's limits
- share setup codes, API keys or invite links with people outside your family
- interfere with Chickadee, probe it for weaknesses without permission, or overload it
If you think you've found a security problem, please tell us at hello@chickadee.co instead.
Changes and ending
We may change, pause or stop parts of Chickadee, and we'll try to tell you ahead of any big change. You can stop using Chickadee at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. The parts of these terms that by their nature should continue (such as ownership, disclaimers and limits on liability) still apply after an account is closed.
Disclaimers
Chickadee is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will always work, that every song will play, that explicit labels are accurate, or that TIDAL, Spotify or the other services it relies on will keep working with it.
Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, and our total liability for any claim about Chickadee is limited to the greater of US$50 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law.
If someone makes a claim against us because you broke these terms or the law while using Chickadee, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim.
Disagreements
If something goes wrong, please email hello@chickadee.co first, and we'll try to sort it out within 30 days. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and any dispute goes to the state or federal courts there, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it locally.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll email you or tell you on the website before they take effect. Using Chickadee after that means you accept the new terms.
